Review of GPA Implementation in the light of the Manila Declaration

The Government of the Philippines will host the 'Review of GPA Implementation in the light of the Manila Declaration'. This meeting will look at progress made since the Third Intergovernmental Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities, in the context of the Manila Declaration, as well as the future plans of the GPA.

The Global Overview of Nutrient Management report – a product that governments asked UNEP as the Secretariat of the GPA to undertake during the IGR-3 - will also be launched.

GPA at Rio + 20: Side events

The Coordinating Office of GPA organized two side events at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

International Nitrogen Assessment videoclip : In a five year project funded by the European Science Foundation programme "Nitrogen in Europe", 200 scientists/experts in the field produced "The European Nitrogen Assessment", which explains the state of the threats to water, air and soil quality and the impacts on biodiversity and climate change in Europe and highlights the possible solutions. GLOC and IGR-3

The United Nations Environment Programme is pleased to announce that the Third Intergovernmental Review Meeting (IGR-3) on the Implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) was held in Manila 25-26 January 2012.

Preceding the IGR-3, a Global Conference on Land-Ocean Connections was organized 23-24 January to discuss emerging issues and science-policy interlinkages, feeding results into the IGR-3.
